    Brad Mehldau piano
Why you must attend this concert:
The great American pianist Brad Mehldau is the benchmark of jazz piano

    LISTEN IN HERE!

"A Star Is Born" was the headline of a major German newspaper in the late 1990s, when Brad Mehldau gave one of his first concerts in Europe. Since then, the versatile and highly creative keyboard-magician has unfolded an unprecedented international career, establishing himself as a bandleader and composer alike. His solo evening in Schloss Elmau will certainly not be a "back to the roots", as the rate at which Brad Mehldau reinvents himself is without equal.

Helmuth Kiesels Literaturgeschichte der Jahre 1933 bis 1945:
    „Schreiben in finsteren Zeiten“

Maxim Billers neuer Roman „Schwarze Samstage“

    Satirisches Schreiben in schweren Zeiten

Philip Roths „Verschwörung gegen Amerika“ heute gelesen

    Chris Thile mandolin

In his debut at Schloss Elmau, Chris Thile presents a musical world that defies boundaries. A Grammy Award-winning mandolinist, singer, and composer, and recipient of the MacArthur “Genius Grant”, he moves fluidly between bluegrass, Bach, and improvisation. A founding member of the string bands Punch Brothers and Nickel Creek, and a frequent collaborator with countless luminaries from Yo-Yo Ma to Fiona Apple to Brad Mehldau, Thile has created a singular musical voice. Across two programs – one rooted in his own musical language, the other in Bach – he offers a joyful artistic vision, at once deeply American and entirely personal.

    Timothy Garton Ash
    „Europa in 7 1/2 Kapiteln“

Igor Levit - Artist in Residence 2026

Igor Levit is considered one of the most innovative and versatile pianists worldwide. The New York Times calls him one of the "most important artists of his generation," while the Süddeutsche Zeitung describes him as a "stroke of luck" for the concert scene. He consistently places his art in the context of societal events, understanding it as inseparably linked to them. As Artist in Residence in 2026, Levit shapes this year's concert program at Schloss Elmau with six piano recitals. For his first double evening, he focuses on selected Beethoven sonatas.

Why you must attend this concert:
A festive end to the year with a swinging big band and Christmas poems set to music

Known for its genre-defining techno-jazz programs, the Jazzrausch Big Band is showing its festive side as the year comes to a close. In its new program, On Christmas Eve, composer Leonhard Kuhn sets poems by Eichendorff, Fontane, and Storm to music – in a humorous, swinging style that steers clear of traditional Christmas folklore.

    Cuban Weekend
    with Sarah Willis & Sarahbanda

French horn and salsa band, this combination had never been seen before – until Sarah Willis, horn player with the Berlin Philharmonic, combined them in her highly successful project “Mozart y Mambo” project. Her “Sarahbanda” brings together some of the most talented musicians from Cuba in a somewhat different Cuban salsa band – with a French horn at the centre. The arrangements of the well-known Cuban music are full of infectious rhythms, lightness and energy that make the listener listen with pleasure and even encourage them to dance.
