    Francesco Piemontesi piano
Why you must attend this concert:
"Piemontesi combines stunning technique with an intellectual capacity few can match" (The Spectator)

For scheduling reasons, Sergei Babayan had to cancel his concert at Schloss Elmau. We are pleased that we were able to find an equal replacement in Francesco Piemontesi

    Beethoven: Piano sonata No 21 C major Op 53 “Waldstein” & No 30 E major Op 109
    Works by Debussy et al.

He is a student of Alfred Brendel and comes from the Swiss Ticino: Francesco Piemontesi is considered one of the most outstanding pianists of our time. Characteristic of his playing are technical perfection, a wide and rich palette of colors, as well as the sophistication of expression.

“Mari en Mayo – Cuban classical music and jazz“

Pianist Marialy Pacheco was once described by the grand seigneur of Cuban jazz, Chucho Valdes, as the greatest young piano talent. The Cuban has long since outgrown this status, winning the prestigious Montreux Piano Competition in 2012 and inspiring the international music world ever since. At Schloss Elmau, she will present a special programme with a whole range of piano music from jazz to classical compositions from her home country of Cuba as well as her own compositions. Marialy will also host the evening in her incomparably likeable manner.

The young saxophonist Asya Fateyeva is this year's portrait artist at the famous Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. In preparation for this, the musicians rehearse for a few days at Schloss Elmau and play their first concert here. With the special instrumentation of saxophone, hurdy-gurdy, cello and vibraphone, the musicians trace the touching poetry of medieval songs from the 12th and 13th centuries, when the first great form of art song developed. The main theme of these songs is love in all its facets. The almost thousand-year-old songs form the basis for Asya Fateyeva and her quartet, which they interpret and arrange from today's perspective.

The unique character of music played live is a crucial aspect of understanding the expressive beauty and compelling honesty of Grigory Sokolov's art. His poetic interpretations, which come alive with mystical intensity in the concert hall, are based on an in-depth knowledge of the repertoire. His programmes span the entire history of music: from transcriptions of sacred polyphony of the Middle Ages and works by Couperin, Rameau and Bach, to the Classical and Romantic repertoire and key compositions of the 20th century. Now Grigory Sokolov returns to Schloss Elmau – with what is sure to be a compelling and impressive concert evening.
