    Axel Milberg liest aus
    Murasaki Shikibu:
    „Die Geschichte vom Prinzen Genji“

Psychology, linguistic elegance, tension - and all this already a thousand years ago! "The story of Prince Genji" revels in the love affairs of the beautiful hero and tells in unforgettable scenes of life at the imperial court of the Heian period.

Born in the capital of the empire, Prince Genji grew up with a sophisticated courtly ceremony. Music and poetry in particular lend the glory of eternity to seemingly mundane matters. Thus the highly educated, sensitive man enchants women from his youth on with a successful bowshot or a witty poem at the right time. Even power intrigues cannot harm him. It is only when his favourite dies that Genji abandons his courage to face life.

    „Der weiße Neger Wumbaba“

Ein heiterer und besinnlicher Abend über das Christfest in der Kindheit und als Erwachsener, über falsch verstandene Weihnachtslieder und auch über einen kleinen König namens Dezember.

The well-known columnist and author takes a philosophical and humorous look at Christmas and the same big questions: Should I buy the Christmas tree early or should I buy it at the last minute? Where will Kurti, the guinea pig, spend the time after the festive season when we go on holiday? A richly filled table of gifts with stories, satires, reflections, dialogues and notes concerning the great feast.

    Igor Levit piano

Beethoven: Sonatas D Major Op 28 "Pastorale" & A flat major Op 110

2020 was a special year - also for pianist Igor Levit: during the Corona lockdown he delighted Musikdeutschland with his Beethoven interpretations, in summer he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, in autumn a criticism by the SZ triggered a controversy about Levit's political commitment. In Schloss Elmau, one of the "most important artists of his generation" (New York Times) closes the year with a New Year's Eve concert and opens the concert season there on 4 January 2021.

The event is only open to hotel guests after prior registration at the Cultural Office on +49 8823 18 260 / kultur@schloss-elmau.de or by SMS to the Hospitality Desk +4917 33 11 22 77

In SLATEC, seven soloists of the successful "Jazzrausch Bigband" merge into a super-organism: in real time, they improvise creative trap and techno music that is as close to the origins of jazz as it is to the future of electronic dance music. Techno ecstasy for the last hours of this memorable year.

Citizen. European. Pianist. This is what Igor Levit's homepage says, and this is exactly how the artist sees himself: "I don't want to be just the man who presses the keys," Levit says about his cultural and political commitment. His alert and critical spirit makes him a sought-after discussion partner, but also a multi-faceted and technically brilliant pianist - stage clear for Igor Levit and the concert year 2021!

variations and interludes on Strawinsky's „Firebird”

Burning for something or burning up on something, floating on the wings of freedom or hanging unsupported in the air? Everything has its two sides, as do the associations one makes with “fire” and “bird”. In their joint programme “Firebird” percussionist Alexei Gerassimez and jazz pianist Omer Klein move within this field of tension. Inspiration and source material for their own compositions is one of the most complex works in the history of music: Stravinsky's “Firebird” once again stretches out its iridescent wings and plunges like a phoenix from the ashes into a sonic adventure full of lightness and passion directly into chaos and back again.
