    First Strings on Mars

Florian Willeitner, violin | Igmar Jenner, violin | Georg Breinschmid, double bass

This trio around the Viennese bassist Georg Breinschmid is at home in all styles: from Balkan Jazz and Gipsy Swing to Waltz and Viennese Song, the musical spectrum of the trio ranges, in which again and again a whole wealth of quotations from music history flashes up. A stunningly comical, highly virtuosic and casually grooving concert evening with a simply brilliant trio.

Rule and History from the Great Elector to the National Socialists

Written during Brexit, Trump's presidency and Putin's fourth term in office, this book is not only a great historical work, but also teaches us a lot about our own epoch and its structures of self-legitimation. Understanding and retaining power. "A masterpiece by one of the world's most renowned historians" Jürgen Osterhammel.

Harmen Fraanje, piano | Mats Eilertsen, bass | Thomas Strønen, drums

Bandleader Mats Eilertsen with his trio of Norwegian and Dutch musicians are currently touring Europe with their new album, released by the international jazz label ECM. A press comment describes the trio as "very airy, almost floating, like a breathing organism". It "fascinates, with how much variety and such unusual ideas the colorful arrangements were arranged, but a consistently clear focus remains present".

    Arrangements of works by Beethoven

The Indian pianist Shani Diluka, who studied with Leon Fleisher and Menahem Pressler amongst others, brings to light a rather unknown aspect of Beethoven with two Indian musicians in their project "Cosmos": his fascination for Indian art and culture, evoked by a volume of Indian narratives published in 1816, and its influence on some of his compositions, including the well-known "Moonlight Sonata".

    #freebrahms

The STEGREIF.orchestra opens up completely new approaches to classical music for the audience. First the orchestra "liberated" Beethoven, then Schubert, now it's the turn of Johannes Brahms' 3rd Symphony. His version is spiced with jazz, world music and techno. The ensemble plays neither with music nor with a conductor. This creates freedom: the musicians move through the room without being afraid to get too close to anyone with their music. "It would be absurd to want to deprive these virtuosos of their musical and interpretational sense of style. On the contrary: they redefine it", says ZEIT.
